HISTORIC HOCABALI HAMAMI IN BURDUR TRANSFORMED INTO A CAFE
Burdur's historic Hocabali Hamamı, originally constructed in 1582 by Hocabali Bin Müslihittin in Sinan Neighborhood, has been repurposed as a cafe. Despite surviving the major earthquakes of 1914 and 1971, the building required significant restoration. Between 2018 and 2020, the Antalya Regional Directorate of Foundations undertook this task, preserving its historical integrity. Subsequently, the Burdur Humanitarian Aid Association has leased the property from the Directorate and revamped it into a cafe accessible to the public.
OPENING CEREMONY OF THE HAMAM CAFE
The Hamam Cafe officially opened its doors after a ceremony attended by locals and officials. Hüseyin Çetinkaya, the president of the Burdur Humanitarian Aid Association, commented on the new venture: We have leased Hocabali Hamamı from the Regional Directorate of Foundations and converted it into a cafe after appropriate renovations. This site has served as a bathhouse for over 400 years. From today onward, it will serve as a cafeteria.
This transformation marks a significant shift in the function of Hocabali Hamamı, aligning with modern needs while respecting its historical essence. The community now enjoys a unique space that combines a respect for heritage with contemporary use.
